thanks for the compliments guys!
The sandy weathering is using Tamiya Texture Paint (Sand), and I highly recommend the product. Much more useful than their weathering sticks which were a mistake to buy...
regards
Both the plane and base are very well done. I like the weathering on the 109.

lol, true, but you're "riding the bike" now! Nice little vignette, looks like a very nice build of the a/c to start with as well.

Hi,
My grandmother's brother (my great uncle) Hubert Greim was a pilot in Jule Meimberg's 9th Staffel in the Jagdgeschwader 2 "Richtofen", stationed in Tunisa in 1942. After participating in a Jabo mission he was hit from below by a Spitfire piloted by an Australian. His grand daughter wrote an account of the friendship that came to fruition much later because of this fateful encounter.

I decided to model the moment, which my Great Uncle described to me in detail, of his crash, and capture by an Indian and two Morrocans (in Fez hats) in English Service. He was flying not his own "white 8" with a "G" inside the top part for "Greim", but Martin Laube, 9./JG2 Technisches Offizer "white 2" which had 3 kill markings. Lt. Greim (known to me as "Uncle Mucki") spent the evening quartered with a French Colonial family (of 6- 3 girls) and had the displeasure of seeing his staffel buzz by in front of his face in the valley opposite the Frenchman's house as they were returning to their lines after a late afternoon ground attack sortie. He remarked he felt extremely sad to be "left behind by them". Before being transported to the US as a POW he was approached by the Australian who shot him down and was asked if he could have the rudder showing 4 kills as a trophy. He happily assented, and always used it as an example that there WAS still chivalry in the "air war" in WW2.
The Model is a 1/48 Hasegawa 109 G-2, with a true detail cockpit set, and a radio compartment frame from Airwaves. The base is a mixture of drywall spackel and clay, with dried spanish moss and lacquered (testors dull cote) baby Pine seedlings.
