1/32 P-40 Spacehawk Diorama
Posted by R Fluhr on Saturday, March 24, 2012 7:04 PM

Hi guys I haven't posted here in awhile I moved and then had computer problems. I have a new project on the bench and thought I would get your ideas about it. I will start out by saying I got the idea from the General Grievous fighter in Star Wars when I first saw it I thought it looked kinda like a P-40 with two engines. So I got my hands on three of the old Revell P-40s And I'm going to kit bash me a dio. I have some rough drawings of what I have in mind for the ship.

The plan is I'm going to do a diorama with the fighter, a pilot and a small refueling hover truck with a robot mechanic. I found a neat looking little Japanese truck in 1/32 scale I'm going replace the wheels with exhaust nozzles and add a fuel tank in the back. I have got all of the kits for the plane now and will get started chopping them apart soon. I'll post some progress pics as I go along here is a picture of the little truck and the figure I'm using as the pilot minus the big gun.

Very interesting idea. Can't wait to see how the plane and diorama is going to look like.

Need to be seen to be believed, LOL!  Great idea!..

When you say "old Revell' P-40" are you meaning the 1/48 Monogram P-40? Or the 1/32 Revell P-40E?

If it's a 1/48 kit, then you could also add the 1/48 F5F Skyrocket..

The 1/32 Revell P-40E, I have started putting it together and will be posting progress pictures by this weekend.

This looks awesome! As a side note where'd the figure come from?

I finally have a few progress pictures I changed the tail a bit I think it looks more in the style of the plane. I'm going to have to scribe new panel lines after I finish all of the filling and sanding but it's getting there.

I have made a little more progress on the dio I'm still filling and sanding all of the unwanted holes in the plane. I have also started on the figures and the hover truck. I have the pilot a maintenance guy and a robot that I made out of bits and pieces the truck is going to be a refueling truck. The diorama is going to have the figures in a group as if they were talking about what work needs to be done to the space fighter. I'll try to get a couple of pictures of the plane, truck and figures on the base tomorrow.

OK guys here is the basic layout of the diorama, excuse the cab on the truck it decided to pop out of position just before the pictures were taken. The pilot is leaning on the plane because he refuses to stand up until he gets glued down.

I really like it.  The only thing that jumps out at me are the ground crew and robot's hands.  Looks like they telling the pilot about last night's two-fisted drinking binge.

Keep posting, I want to see more!

Thanks Watchman I agree, I didn't notice until I put the two figures together that their arms are basically in the same position. I'll change the robot figure, I'm planning on opening a panel on the side of the plane and putting the crew figures right hand on the door.

I have another sketch of what I'm thinking of doing with the paint on the plane, I'm planning on it being heavily weathered too.

That looks really interesting. It looks like something from Crimson skies.

Guess what guys I have a friend that has a 1/32 scale F-14 Tomcat that he is letting me have, it's missing the canopy so he doesn't want it anymore. I'm planning to use a few parts from it on the twin P-40. Such as opening the front of the center pod and adding all of the radar stuff from the nose of the Tomcat, also some of the panels, engine goodies and the beefier landing gear.
