It looks to me and my wife (who has done professional photography) that he would have actually been standing on the wing. It of course depends on if he was a professional photographer and what lenses he had. Can't imagine he would have had a lot of equipment moving around war zones.
Just stick him on the wing, then you don't have to conceal the cockpit!

Grandpa is the guy on the left, he was the tail gunner on B-24D Southern Comfort on Operation Tidal Wave,died 6/1/00. The Guy in the center was the navigator,Sheldon Finder. He was killed in action on Aug 16,43. On the right is Horace Austin, the pilot. He passed away in 89. I need to get some photos of burnt engines to see what kind of work I need to do to make that pretty block of resin look shot up and burnt. Anyone know where I might find photos like that?

I've also got an inspirational picture of my grandad standing on a Nazi flag in Alsace yet with the non-existency of decent allied paratrooper figures, I'm not trying anything that might be frowned upon.

P.S. my first dio came out as a great crash scene but it wasn't supposed to be.

I got the Stuka already in progress. I got the engine ordered from Squadron. I'm gonna do this kit normally then back up and start in with the damage. The engine will be the real bear I think. From the angle it looks like the cameraman might be sanding in the cockpit. What do you guys think? I don't know who took the photo to ask him and the other guys along with my grandfather have passed away. Wouldn't you know it though, I finished up the cockpit last night and I must say that it's the best one I have ever done, paint and detail wise. Gonna be a shame to tear it up, but oh well. The build must go on!

This will be a really cool dio sahickerson! Especially with your grandfather in there. Don't forget the camera man! German models are really easy to get your hands on. No big deal hacking at one. A much better story than if it was sitting on a runway.

O - yeah, you gotta go for it, after all, it's family.

I think that it would make an outstanding diorama. And the family connection would make it all the more meaningful.

I say go for it.
