Gamera, to be honest, all of the 8th AAF bases are close to were i live. I would say i could get to any one of them in no more than 90 mins driving. In the hour it takes me to get from my home to my mums i pass close 6 or 7.

I have seen a few decal sets for the Zodiacs. I hope the family have kept your dio safe. The 486th were based at Sudbury which is only a few miles from where i live I hope you can find those photos. Would love to see them.

Bish: Thanks. He was Major Charlie MacGill and was pilot of 'Virgo' based in the ETO. He came to our club and asked if anyone could help him with an old Monogram B-24 he'd started years ago but only recently the decals he needed came out. I had an extra 1/72nd Minicraft B-24 in my stash so I ordered an extra set and started out to do the kit but he passed away before I finished.  The dio went to his family but I'm not sure what ultimatly happened to it. I have some photos around somewhere of it, I'll have to see if I can find it.

checkmate Yep, those are the Aifix figures. I know what you mean about the paint. I leave the head and feet until last and try to just handle the figures with those areas. If i do this i find the paint stays ok. Its the handleing that seem to be a problem. But they are tricky.

Hercmech Ye, its at the larger end of the Dio scale for me. One reeason i stick to 72nd. But i also have Dio's planned for a 72nd B-1, B-2, B-52 and a few others. So they will drawf this.

bsymato ye, i have the Priser set, as well as the CMK sets. The problem is that the airfix figures are really 76th scale and the size difference is notacible. I have mixed them but it depends on the posers. There are a few of the other figures which would have suited this, but it would have looked silly. But i already have pland for those Prieser figures, they are nice.

Vance Thanks, i think i can get away with it on this scene, with the crew boarding. I know what you mean, planning the dio is the key.

Doogs Well put it like this, i have 2 more of the J kits and 3 of the D's. And i will need at least 4 more B-24's and i will be going for the hase kits. They are pricey, and i am sure a great build can be done with one of the cheaper kits. That size sounds about right, i think the board is about 45cm across, so the wings could be a bit longer as it just fits corner to corner.

It's the wrong scale, but to be honest, I'm considering a limited collection of 1/72 bombers and transports. Love my 48th and 32nd, but beyond the 1/48 medium bombers, they start to expand beyond the limits of my display cabinets.

Did some rough math, and if I'm correct a 1/72 B-24 has a wingspan of around 18 inches (45cm for the metrics)? That's rather smaller than the 1/48's 27", but still broader than a 1/32 P-47. 

Nice dio Bish. I don't know if I'd worry too much about "more figures", sometimes I see dios that just have too much going on, you kinda lose sight of the aircraft - and this one is worth looking at all on its own. Good job!

Great Liberator, Bish.  You did a truly, fine, excellent job on this plane, and the whole diorama.  Very appealing scene.

Are the figures from Airfix?  If so, how did you manage to get paint to stick to them?  That soft plastic frustrates me every time.  Seems to chip and flake before I ever get finished.

I built something somewhat simular for a local vet years ago but he suddenly passed away before I finished it . Heller makes a very nice jeep and trailer I used on mine. Academy and Airfix make several vehicle I used as well. My figures were mostly Priesler, really good quality there.

Thanks Mark. Its all down to lots of micro sol/set on the decals, and a bit of patience. But you have to be careful as it does soften the decals a lot and you can damage them.

For me, i want to get back to some armour. I have built any in a couple of years.

Nicely done. I like the way you got the decals to lay with the surface detail underneath showing, that's not easy to do with decals that cover large areas. Kind of makes me want to try an aircraft of some sort...

I imagine thats some size, my kit is big enough.

I'm lucky, the figures that are around are all sutably for 8th AAF aircraft, and all my US builds are from the 8th. Theres plenty of ground equipment for USAAF aircraft, just not figures.

The jeep is the old hasegawa kit, it comes with an AT gun.

My B-24 diorama is on hold as I need nose art and tail number decals.

I have the Revell/Monogram 1/48 D. I actually needed the J and didnt know what I was doing! Oh well.

I know what ya mean about figures. My kit came with a few but I need Pacific Theater garb. I will have to make do with the kit figures.

BTW, what kit is the Jeep?
