I'm converting a 1/96 Cutty Sark into the Portuguese Ferreira...and like my CS diorama...I'm going big.

I built silicone shock absorbers that fit between the water and the four white pillars.  these allow the ship in its water to be removed from the harbor floor...so the build of the ship can procede easily....plus they act as seats so everything fits well when replaced.  I will add the trim for the waterline and the base round edge trim......cleaning the mounting up...then painting them white.

Finished the base today...the water can be removed from the base bottom so I can work on the ship.

If that's 1/96 scale, how big is that exactly?  I really like the above and below the waterline look.  Looking forward to seeing more of this.

Sanderson....thanks.  Well the finished model is about 33" long so that makes the wood base a bit smaller...I'll measure it tomorrow for an exact dementions.

It makes the model come alive.  I worked the deck today.....so I'm getting ready to paint the rails

Thanks Gamera.  I've never sean anything like it myself...with the *above-below* detail and the clean white framing that makes it look professionally finished.  I'm not all that moved by plain static displaying of sailing ship models...hence my shipways diorama for my Cutty Sark rudder repair and now this diorama of the Ferreira in its shallow harbour.  The water terned out pretty nice as well with surface ripples and depth of realizm.  I'm pleased.

Again...thanks.

I'v never seen anybody do the seafloor before. NICE!!!    I'm not sure but it looks like you'r base may be a bit short in front.  Cant tell from the pictures....   will the ship stick out over the front?

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

The bowsprit will extend several inches past the base if I extend it but my plan is to port stow the job boom and slide it in.

thanks for your comment and for noticing.

I weathered the deck and gunwalls and rail to mimic sun bleaching.
