1/35 MENG Pickup...Egyptian Style! (Build Story)
Posted by helkaissy on Sunday, December 22, 2013 5:20 AM

Hi Everyone:
I have recently purchased the 1/35 MENG pickup with Equipment kit as part of a diorama I am building. Planning to convert this modern pickup to our Egyptian style old street pickups. I have added the driver from another kit and as part of the diorama scene he will be wounded and the pickup shot many rounds.
I'm still a beginner modeler and this is my 6th model, I made a lot of study in our streets about pickups and it turned out that 90% of our pickups are white color and are in very bad condition due to harsh working conditions, I also noted that most pickups have these design stickers on the front doors and these warning triangle stickers on the back. I was also careful to note the special red color given to the license plates of the pickup vehicles.
Here are some photos of the study:

And these are some of the Assembling Steps:
The MENG pickup kit:

Assembling and weathering the lower chassis:

Weathering the chassis with Tamiya weathering master:

Assembling and painting the interior:
Side doors internal

Dashboard

Adding the wounded Driver:

I added a water bottle on the dash for more realistic feel:

Assembling the front and back cabines:

Covering the windows for Airbrushing:

Adding a brown rust undercoat for chiping:

Airbrushing white paint and painting the door graphics:

Chiping the front and back cabin:

Assembling the body and weathering:

Weathering the bottom:

Assembling the lower chassis on the vehicle:

And the finished vehicle:

The Vehicle will be placed in a desert scene with insurgents that is why it has been weathered by sand and dust.

I, too, have built this kit. A great, fun, and relatively simple kit that lends itself very easily to any modifications.

Cannot wait to see the "environment" you'll put it in. Looks like a winner to me!

That's incredible work for just your 6th model. Tamiya Weathering Master is the way to go.

Hi Model maniac

No gun here because it is just a concealed escape vehicle, we don't have a public war in Egypt :)  its just a civilian pickup

very cool and something different. well done.

while it'd be cool to have a big ass anti-aircraft gun in the tray, it's busy enough to not need it. I once built the 1/32 nissan dual cab as a somalie technical,  civie pickup with anti-aircraft gun in tray.

Thanks OctaneOrange

I had to put the gun that came with this kit aside because I will use it as part of Egyptian diorama and will be an escape vehicle, you are right in Somalia they use heavy guns on these vehicles because they have civil wars there.
