Creature from The Black Lagoon - first diorama
Posted by zapme on Friday, January 3, 2014 3:50 AM

Hi everyone,

I Have finally finished my first diorama, this is the Creature From The Black Lagoon. This was a cheap Asian copy of the Screamin mold I bought from E-bay pretty cheaply, and had it in my stash for a couple of years before the I built up the courage to start it. The diorama came from a need to mount it some way and came up with the following idea. I used Tamiya olive green as the undercoat then oil colours to blend it in. The eyes, mouth and claws are Vallejo and the water is Scenics. I scratch built the snake and dead fish from milliput. Overall I'm pretty please with the outcome and will probably spend more time on the quality of base next time. Please all comments welcome.

cheers Leo

I apologise in advance as you will notice I'm not very good at photography.

Very nice work on both the creature and the base.

Here's mine, but not a diorama.  I don't care for snakes and dead fish, so instead I gave him a girlfriend!

Leo. Cool dio. Try shooting it without the flash. Perhaps outside w/an appropriate background. real sunlight makes everything easier.

Looks pretty darn cool to me! Nice work on the Creature and the dio you build for him.

Chuck: Your Creature don't look too shabby either!

Thanks- I noticed that about the glass table, too.

The creature is a composite of the standard plastic kit, and after market add-ons in resin, such as the arms, the head, the base, and the girl.  I believe they were from Jimmy Flintstone.

It's interesting to note that every Creature model you see is unique.  He's a versatile guy!

Every manufacturer has their own slant on how the face should look like
