If you have a table saw, the easiest way to cut glass is your local hardware store or Lowe's, Home Depot etc. For the rest I use wood. I usually make the base first to make sure it is wide enough and long enough. Most times I don't try to use glass or plastic for a top. I just cut and fit a mirror image of the base. I then cut a groove big enough f to hold the panes of glass and make 4 square wooden corner members to hold the glass and support the top..

If you already have a large table saw and a router, that's about all you'll need.  Otherwise, it's pretty much impossible to cut the plexiglass and wood base straight and square.

The only alternative is to buy one, all of the suggestions are good.  Also there a couple of people who advertise custom display cases in the ads in the back of FSM.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Mitsdude,

Late to the party, but not to the content.

Give some thought to using fish tanks, new or used, come in various gal. sizes. Dust proof and lighted. Have been using them for years. Smile

What kind of display case? A large one to hold many models, kinda like what a retail store places  more valuable items in? Or a box like case to hold just one model?

I've been down this road and can tell you it can get expensive, even building your own. I've tried glass and plexiglass, both ended up looking like crap.

For me the most difficult part was the cutting of the glass or plexi.  Assembly is a pain but doable with time and patience. I just couldn't get the hang of cutting. Those darn videos made it look so easy!

How do I Make a Display Case

I am new here so first, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question, I tried to search it but nothing would happen.

I want to find out how to build a display case and what kind of material to use,  I have been working on my first ever model, I fell in love building models so now I am would say hooked but I guess in this field you would say " now I'm Glued " a 1:350 CVN-65 and now also started a Huey an now I need to learn how to build some large cases. Can someone steer me to the right place.

Thank You

Jerry
