The blank area in the foreground is a ruin that is on the bench for additional paint & interior detritus. The white is now concrete road. There are currently 17 military models on/in the landscape.

That's a very impressive looking diorama, but, i have to ask, what made you choose a 1/87 scale?

Are there any manufacturers that produce 1/87 scale military vehicles?

I started modeling HO (1/87) scale railroading almost 50 years ago and was exposed to ROCO Minitanks soon after. They sold from $.25 for a couple motorcycles to $2.49 for an M26 Dragon Wagon. This was in the 60s, and a younger cousin and his friends wargamed with them. They were cheap and had a pretty extensive line that expanded every year in scope and quality. I wanted to model units, and this was all I could afford. I've been building them ever since, sometimes just adding details, paint & decals and sometimes using the model as base for an extensive remodel. I have several hundred now, WWII to present US & German.  ROCO, Herpa, Trident, WSW, Hauler, ArsenalM, to name a few. Paul

Sorry, whilst i do enjoy looking at model trains, i haven't ever modeled them and am unfamiliar with the size of the scale.

I've never come across ROCO brand before, but just did a quick search and it appears they are quite big in the railroad world - most likely why i haven't heard of them.

Well, that all makes perfect sense now.

1/87 (HO) scale is perfect for large dioramas as there are many accessories, figures and vehicles available.

Looked around for Russian and German WWII tanks suitable for the battle of Kursk and found they were either lacking detail or really expensive resin kits.

1/100 scale seems to be gaining popularity - mainly from war gamers yet new releases in styrene plastic from Zevzda  look promising.

I had a bunch of these RoCo's but they went out of production, so are a bit expensive now,  

I kept the M48 AVLB, to go with it's cousin the Revell M48-AVLB,  very 'mini-me' & donated the rest inc an M2 Alligator to a guy that used to drive/steer/throw spanners at!

Thanks! Herpa has taken over the ROCO molds and has released some of their own military vehicles in 1/87 as well as the old ROCO.
