Harvard Yard
Posted by vespa boy on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 12:32 PM

I made a model of this section of Harvard Yard, near to Sever Gate. The four holes in the walkway are all that is left of the tent that was errected for the gala fundraiser that was thrown at the closing of the Fogg Art Museum for its renovation in 2008. It's a quiet reminder of what was a very big night.

Either side of the path is a patchy lawn

This is my first time modelling lawn and all my attempts thus far have been so laughable that I have not even taken photos.

After a lot of advice from forum experts, I ended up buying a grasmaster2 from Noch and a selection of nylon "grasses" and mixed my own special batches. The construction is nothing special, plaster bricks, carborundum for asphalt, balsa wood to make the ground contours etc.  I used dirt from Harvard Yard as a base and also bits of foliage that I dried out in an oven. Here are the photos.

I'm with Pawel - has been a while since I've seen your work here.

The last one i saw was of the sidewalk.

Really enjoy seeing it - your subject matters are always a nice change of pace.

Wow, I wish I could get my grass and pavement to look 10% as good as yours!

Good to see fresh work from you again. Like most of your work, this one especially seems to hold personal sentiment
