SH 1/72nd Ju 87A-2 Completed
Posted by Bish on Sunday, July 20, 2014 5:10 AM

My latest dio is a Special Hobby 1/72nd Ju 87A-2. The Stuka is my all time favourite aircraft, I have more Stuka kits than kits of any other type and would like to build as many variants as possible. So when it came to a build for the Stuka GB that I am hosting, I decided to do a version that is not seen very often and of which there are not many kits, 3 in 72nd and soon to be one in 32nd that I know of.

This is a Ju 87A-2 of StG 165, the forerunner of StG 2, depicted in 1938. being an SH kit, there were no locating pins and despite including a PE set, the cockpit detail was rather sparse. So I added some spare Ju 87D PE and a few scratchbuilt parts to fill it out. the kits itself was nice to build, it did need a little filler in a few spots. It was painted with Xtracolour enamels in the pre war 3 colour splinter, RLM 65 underneath and RLM 61, 62 and 63 on top. It also carries the pre war 5 digit codes. Weathering was kept light with a wash of Flory models and some grim around the undercarriage.

I have been really pleased with this build. I was surprised at how easy it went together. Before now I had not given much thought to pre war aircraft,  but this scheme especially has really got my attention so I can see me doing a few more 1930's German builds. And a real joy to add my second Stuka to the built pile

Thanks for looking, all comments welcome as always.

Awesome job Bish. I do not think I could work on something that small. How do you do your mane plates? I really like that. May use some of your style on mine if it's okay.

Again love the job you did.

Thanks Nomad. I have been building 72nd aircraft for a long time so its pretty normal to me. And there are plenty smaller than this.

Now that's a question. I will try and explain as best I can, I am not very good at that sort of thing. I use something called paint.net, its free to download and I use it for my GB badges. It took me quite some time to get used to using it properly, but then computers are not my forte.

I open a new project selecting the size I want, although for some reason the print size I put in is not the same as it comes out. I then just add the first flag, which has already been shrunk, then the text and then the other image. After that I save it to my comp and then put it into a word doc so I can get it to the size I want, then print off on card.

That's probably not very helpful and easy to understand, but that the best explanation I can give. This is the download if you want to check it out.

www.free-4-pc.com/.../Paint.NET

It has all sorts of tutorials and stuff on there.

I only started using these name plates last year. before than I used rub off letters, but these were a real pain.
