DFS 230 on Eben Emael completed
Posted by Bish on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 1:16 PM

This is a scene I have wanted to do for 20 years and have finally gotten around to doing it. Using the Huma 1/72nd DFS 230, I have depicted a scene from the German assault on the Belgian fortress of Eben Emael on May 10th 1940. This was a typical Huma kit with little detail on the inside. I scratch built a bench for the troops in the fuselage and added some details to the cockpit from the spares box.

I painted with Xtracolour RLM 02 and weathered with Flory washes and dry brushing. The figures are from Preiser and Revell. I added some 50Kg hollow charge devices and Bangalore torpedo's so I could depict as accurately as possible squad 8 of Assault Group Granite.

Thanks for looking, all comments questions welcome.

Really really nice. Taught us all something too.

I'm surprised the glider has no markings.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks GM.

They were given a fresh coat of RLM02, which included covering up the markings, in an effort to confuse the Belgians.

Thanks TB. We don't see many gliders on here, so does make a nice change. One of these days I will get round to the Me 321.

Cool subject and nice layout. 1/72 dios are a nice way to present a scene without taking up too much room. Love the hollow charges. The Belgies didn't know what the heck hit them!

Thanks. I do much prefer dio's over leaving a model standing on its own. And this scale is certainly my preferred one. And your right about that, it was a bit of a shock.
