Resin building kit help
Posted by Caddyshack on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 9:49 AM

I purchases two resin building ruin kits at a show this past weekend.  I've never worked with resin before.  Pretty much the only directions for assembly are the images on the box.  What is the recommended glue for these types of kits?

I prefer to use super glue (cyanoacrylate).  You can also use two-part epoxy.  Regular model glues will not adhere to resin.

Cutting and sanding resin produces a fine dust which is harmful to your respiratory system.  If you're working resin, you should cut and sand while wearing a respirator or dust mask.

Wet sanding using hardware store type wet/dry sandpaper will help keep the dust down. I attach a piece of wet/dry to a sheet of plexiglass with contact cement and sand at the kitchen sink. This facilitates straight and flat gluing surfaces. Sand in a circular or figure-8 motion and swap hand positions to help maintain even sanding pressure

I use CA glue for resin as well. Just make sure you test fit, once its glue, it can be a real pain to un stick it.

If there are any thin pieces, handle with care as they can be brittle.

Or epoxy. Nothing else works nearly as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I'm going to try a 5 minute 2 part epoxy
