What was you’re method for the figures (faces and uniforms)? How’d you get the uniform markings and insignias?

The uniforms were just painted and then dry brushed with a raw umber wash to get them a bit grubby. The faces i find the hardest to get right, and its still somthing i am working on. Again, just a base coat, highlights and then dry brushing until i am happy.

The insgnia are all Archer dry transfers. Expensive but far beter than trying to paint.

I do like them. I use Acrylics for figures. tamiya, vallejo and Scale 75 for the skin.

I mostly use enamels. What do you thin the Vallejo with?

I use their airbrush thinner, but i find i only need to thin it for dry brushing mostly.

I do use enamels for the model itself, but prefer acrylics for the figures. A few years back i got the Osprey book on modelling SS figures and have found that very useful for all German uniforms. That books referances vallejo paints and so i switch mostly to those instead of tamiya that i used before.

Thank you. I think i got it off e-bay. I get most of my kits on there, either that or the LHS and Hannants. If you check e-bay or sites like Sprue Brothers you should be able to find them.

I am not sure on how much experiance you have with armour. If not much, then the tamiya kits are a good place to start. They do 3 Ausf D versions. AFV Club and Dragon have a very big range and the former are the best 251 kits IMHO, but i would not recomend for the complete beginner, especially the Dragon.

I have not built the Zvezda kit yet so thats the only one i can't comment on. But the 3 i mentioned above and the ICM kit, you can't go wrong with any of them.Just dpends if you want a specific version or just any 251.

Hello Bish,

I came back to look at your diorama again because I really liked your vision. I took the time to notice all the different details, like the sand bags stacked on the front, the static grass along the fence line and about 20 other great things. 

It is truely an awesome diorama Bish...hopefully one day mine will look that great. Top Shelf sir!

Thanks Jeff. I have been buildng diorama's for about 30 years abut only got serous in the last 10 or so. After spending a few years concentrating on getting the vehicle finish to how i wanted it depending on the scene, and then getting the figures to a point i was happy with, i have spent the last 3 or 4 years focusing mainly on the bases. Its amazing how much of a differance the small details can make. I know have a big selection of flowers, plants, grasses, fences and other items that gives me a lot to choose from.

But i have to admit that urban dio's are my favorite, there is just so much you can add to those.
