vietnam diorama

Lots of goodies around all of the hootches and stuff. Tons of detail to be added.
I had planned to do it in 1/35th scale, but size kind of put it on the back burner.

for those oversized trees found in some jungles dried sunflower stems really look the part and dont seem to perish .....dig for victory get planting

ya thnx guys 4 the ideas iam a big fan of the vietnam war although usa lost n iam canadian ive always loved the highly americanized movies and t.v shows such as tour of duty, n yes i think ittl probloably be a fire base on a clear cut hill with lots of jungle n scenery around it

I like ddayomaha's idea, go with the troops loading up into the huey's. That'd be awesome, and the scale would allow you to make quite a sizeable piece.

Franklin Mint has 5 or 6 figures entitled 'Jungle Squad'. they're probalby a little larger than 54mm. they are posed walking and scanning. i've been using foliage from a Hobby Lobby store, cutting to size, painting them to real and using all kinds to replicate grasses, ferns, trees, debris, vines, bamboo and even rice plants. i've been using chaulking and toning them to stimulate trunks and thier roots. my diorma has these figures coming 'out' from the jungle, entering a rice paddy cautiously . its about 2' by 11/2'. its based on my training experiences in the philippines near clark afb in the 80's with the air force pararescuemen. the rice paddy is tedious to make, especially trying to simulate the muddy water. hope the ideas help with yours. doc boggan

Go for it ! I built a small one in 1/35th some years ago when I found a photograph of me and my radio sitting beside an M-48 when we were on a sweep. People get a kick out of comparing the diorama to the photograph.

that would be cool you do the scene when all the troops are loding into the huey's and when the huey blows the Gi's cards off his table...just a thought
