The Last Hurrah-Jagdtiger of the s.Pz.Jg.Abt 512
Posted by TigerII on Sunday, February 5, 2023 6:28 PM

I've started building Tamiya's 1/35 scale Jagdtiger "Hunting" Tiger. I primed the vehicle and gave it its base coat of dark yellow. I've received AM individual tracks and some PE for the rear engine deck grills. Also I've decided to remove some of the side fenders. This "heavy" tank battalion saw nearly three month of action, with its final battle near Paderborn, Germany in mid-April before surrendering to the US 99th Infantry Division in Iserlohn in May 1945. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Looks great TigerII, looking forward to seeing the cool dio you're whipping up for her.

Thanks Gamera. The tracks are on and given their initial paint job. I have some tools to add to the upper hull and then proceed forward with painting, weathering and figures. Enjoy the pics.

Well I've done some work on my jagdtiger. Here are some WIP pics. I've added some tools and painted the cables, I also added a PE periscope that was missing, I also added some spare tracks. The road tracks were weathered and I attached the upper and lower hull, but they're not glued together, yet. There is some preliminary weathering done, but now comes the full weathering process, along with transfers and decals and any other tweaking and painting that I might do. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

It's a fine looking build so far. Looking forward to seeing what you do on camo and weathering.

Thanks Gamera & Stik for your comments. I will have to disappoint you Stik, regarding the camouflage. These jagdtigers of this heavy tank battalion received only their Dark Yellow paint with very little camouflage and some foliage to hide from Allied aircraft. The only research pics I found were of this unit surrendering to the 99th Infantry Division at Iserlohn in May 1945 in their Dark Yellow scheme. It will get weathered since it did see a couple of battles and I'll probably add some camouflage, but not much.

Hellow everyone. Well I can officially say that this jagdtiger is basically finished. It will get an application of foliage and any other tweaking that I notice that it needs, but this is done. Now its on to the crew figures, some infantry and the base. Wish me luck and as always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

The question has arisen regarding if the jagdtigers of the 512th were paint camouflaged or just their Dark Yellow paint along with foliage for camo. I based my jagdtiger on this info. Sorry on how the pics look, I scanned them as best I could. Now its time to move on.

I dunno about the camo but she looks big, brooding, and heavy just like she should...

Well thanks Gamera. At least I was able to convey that look. Here are some pics with the foliage attached. I used cheese cloth to fashion the camo netting on the upper hull, lichen for the majority of the foliage, along with fern leaves and turf weeds. I'll probably color down some of the attached ferns, but for now I'm playing it by ear/sight. I know the foliage covered a lot of the weathering, but like models with full interiors; I know its there. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

I've been taking my time with this project, and also waiting on a mail delivery, that I hope arrives today. But I have been doing some figure works, especially kitbashing some of them and getting their equipment ready. Here are some WIP pics of the figures with their primed equipment and weapons.

Well the figures went together well, and I'm happy with how they look. They will get some tweaking done. The Erbsentarn camo pattern came out nice, the jagdtiger's crews Panzer uniforms have Archer transfers as do some of the infantry. The rifles will get some slings and will be attached to their respective soldier and a PE MG42 ammo belt will also be added. Once thats done I will be able to start on the base and groundwork. All comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Fantastic work there Tiger, the figures look superb and love the foliage on the TD!

My only question as a tank destroyer/assualt gun would the Jagdtiger's crew have the green uniforms instead of panzer black? Frankly I dunno- just curious.

Hey Gamera, I checked your question regarding the uniforms and some crewmembers did wear the Field Grey pants but they still wore the Panzer Black uniform jackets and some still wore the entire uniform in black, as seen with this Jagdpanther crew.

Fantastic! I was wondering if I should say anything, it's annoying to go back and repaint stuff once it's done. Very glad to hear I was wrong! Big Smile

Thanks Tojo. I was going to put up some more WIP pics but decided to work through and finish this simple dio. It kind of reminded me of a mirror image of my previous dio 'KNOCK, KNOCK, The Fall of Saigon'. The dio represents a jagdtiger of s.Pz.Jg.Abt 512 as the crew have a last cigarette before the ensuing battle as the infantry await and set up a machine gun nest. The figures and equipment are from Tamiya, Academy & Italeri except for the TC which is from Warriors. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Looks fantastic! Love how the foliage came out.

And the figures set off how gigantic the Jadgtiger was.
