Flak 36 Diorama Completed Pics (Warning: Lots of Pics.)
Posted by Dwight Ta-ala on Monday, May 10, 2004 6:32 PM
Here is my entry to the Towed Gun Group Build in the Armor Forum, a Tamiya 1/35 Flak 36/37 Gun. Since it is basically a diorama, I decided to also post it here.Smile [:)]

I built this kit out of the box (as usual) to simulate the Flak36 version of the gun. I have not made any adjustments to correct any flaw or inaccuracies of the kit except from the scratchbuilding of parts that I lost.

I have seen a lot of dioramas of an 88 in or within the vicinity of the church. I somehow got interested in doing my own version of what seems to be already a “cliché” as far as 88 dios are concerned. Well I know that you have seen lots of dios like this already and I hope you don’t mind seeing another one. He-he-he.

I was previously planning to include a camouflage net tent for the gun but upon seeing how crowded it is now, I decided not to proceed with it.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Some close-up views:

The Base:

The base was basically scratchbuilt from readily available and ordinary materials. For reference, here are the materials I used:

Wooden Base: Chopping Board
Ground: Wall Putty
Church Ruin: Foamboard and Cardboard
Cobblestone Walk: Foamboard
Rubble: Smashed flower pot mixed with some stones
Turf: Woodland Scenics
Tall Grass: Old paintbrush

Here are the pics of the base prior to the fixing of the model and the figures:

I may still add some details inside the church but that could come later.

Comments and suggestions are welcome as always.

What can I say Dwight ........ another superb build. The attention you put into the church is top drawer, except for the roof over the entrance where there were not enough rafters. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]Wink [;)] The gun itself looks great in this scene and is quite well done for this old kit.

A pleasure as always to see your work.

thanks
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Paddywagon: Thank you.

Phroosh: Thanks again, too. Indeed I am proud to hear that lots of people like it. Being only my fifth diorama so far, I feel that I am slowly improving on my works. Thanks to the tons of tips I get from around here and from people like you.

Warren: Thanks for the compliments.

andrew: Salamat, pare. (thank you, my friend.) I am just happy that it turned out this way. And I believe anybody can do a good dio, too. Just let the imagination flow and don't feel restrained if we can't find stuff like verlinden or the like. There are lots of ordinary things that we can use for dios.

Kelly: You are welcome. I consider buying ready-made dio stuff quite expensive and I am just happy to share to fellow modelers tips that will lessen the expense of doing the hobby. Thanks for the kind words, too.

Artorius: Thank you also for taking time to read the post and respond to it.

Smile [:)]

very nicely done.I am not familiar with the subject matter but I really like the composition. One tiny suggestion though.I would reconsider using such a heavy grained wood, pine I beleive, for your base.I find that it distracts the eye from the main subject matter, the diorama.Try basswood as it has about the same color without much grain.Just my 2cents.The diorama itself is excellent.Cheers! John.
