if you've seen my recent dio (P-51 vs. BF-109), it was 1:48 scale and my figure was made by Panther. It's a good looking resin figure (it came with 2), but i did have to pay $20.00 , with shipping included. I checked all of the Hobby/Craft stores in my area and couldn't find ANY in 1:48, so i had to order them off the internet. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Welcome to the 48th scale world. There are a wide assortment of vehicles available. The problem is the most of the affordable ones are tanks (not much use in AC dios) or resin and metal ($$$). I just did a quick search at www.greatmodels.com and found these manufacturers.
Des Kits, Fuman, FM Models, Frog Models (old Bandai kits, have a jeep and kubelwagen that are nice), Fonderie Miniatures, FlightPath, Gaso.Line, Pend Oreille Models, Sol, and Tarmac. Tamiya has just released a couple of vehicles with their planes including a Kettengrad and US Navy tractor. Also just released a Kubelwagen that is very nice. Hasagawa and Fujimi have figure sets out for US Navy and Air Force which include a couple of vehicles.
'O' scale is actually 1/43rd scale so the figures and cars are a little large but look OK if not too close to the planes or any other 48th figures.

I have done all my work in 1/48 and have found that you can do a lot with diecast vehicles to improve on them. Corgi and a few others make 1/43 scale that placed right you can not tell the size differance. I like you wish more figures were avalible. one of the great advantages I have found is that "O scale" model train supplies are also 1/48 scale. Hope this helps
