My first Diorama!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 7:47 PM
I'm going to finally start my diorama. It's going to have a two story building, something like this:

only grey. Now, on the top story, I'll have some German officers around a table with just some random, generic Russian maps. On the bottom story, I was thinking of having a quatermaster "station", a place with petrol (Or gasoline, as it should be called. ), ammunition boxes, etc. (I unfortunately don't know what the "etc." is...... ) Would having a QM station there be "right"? I'd like to think that is somewhere around '43, the Ukraine.

All around the outside of the building, I'm going to have two Sdkfz. 251/4's (Ammunition Carrier), a 251/1(Infantry Carrier) , a Marder III (Not the "M"), and possibly a Kommeunderwagen.

On the 251/4, I've checked around, and I figure that I'm going to take out the back two seats in the Hanomag, and fill it with some Machine Gun Ammo boxes, two 75 mm AT shell boxes, and maybe some random wood boxes. (I love random )

On the 251/1, I'll have some Wehrmacht infantry just taking a seat, if I can get them to sit on those short, tiny seats.

With the Marder III, I will have some men just lounging around, maybe eating a sausage or sandwich, (Oh, and by the by, how could I make that in 1/35th scale?), maybe sleeping, just waiting for orders. Also, could I have the vehicles from different divisions? You know, after some were annihilated, reformed, but still kept their original division's signs?
What do you guy and gals think? Thanks for your time.

Sounds pretty good. I don't think the supply depot would be under the HQ area though. Maybe you could have some furniture and a bunch of guys lounging around on the lower level. Or have the lower level as a radio operations area. Dragon had a great kit of German radio operators and radios, they were in a command post with table, radios, chairs, etc. That way it would keep the idea of the HQ going. Don't know if it is still available though. This is the only set I could currently find with German radiomen.

For the guys lounging around the vehicles and possibly eating, the Tamiya German Infantry at Rest comes with food items and a few guys eating and talking. They would be right up your alley. Here they are:

Good luck. It sound like a good idea.

Sounds like an impressive diorama is in the works, MEBM.

I agree with Gino about the lower level setup, though. It would probably fit in better.

Many of the pics I have seen with the 251/1, and many other halftracks, is the Infantry inside were sitting on top, istead of the low rise seats. Maybe if you had some guys sitting on the top edge and a guy laying downon the seats or something.

Sounds like it will be a good dio and i am looking foreward to seeing it.
