How to attach a/c to runway base?
Posted by knight667 on Thursday, June 10, 2004 12:26 PM
I'm looking at building my first runway diorama, and I think I've got construction figured out (gonna use sheet-styrene on a wood base). However, how do you guys attach the a/c to the base? Screws, glue, the Force?

This is doubly important for me because I'll be mailing the completed model and diorama to Utah (from Oregon)...in a VERY well padded box.

Any help is most appreciated!

Tricycle gear or tail-sitter?

The only time I've done this so far was for a 1/72 Hurricane mounted on a wood base: I drilled holes in the base of the tyres and the wood and epoxied a 5mm piece of wire into each one to fix the plane in place. I also added a tiny dab of CA to the tail wheel.

In the event, the wheels were probably more secure on the base than the undercarriage was to the rest of the plane Wink [;)]

Shipping it in diorama will be tough, all the forces will act on those fixing points and if you have fragile aerials etc you can't pack it out. Maybe you could separate and wrap the components for a small amount of easy assembly at the other end?

Tricycle...F-16C.

After reading a bunch of reviews and tips on here and ARC, and heeding your advice, I think i'll just set the a/c on the base and allow the person I'm shipping it to to move it around as he sees fit. You're right about shipping, i hadn't considered the number of Gs a package takes these days in postage.
