Bing! Idea for a diorama... (Long post)
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 12, 2004 1:11 PM
I am here posting my first new topic, just found the site yesterday and I must say what a fantastic site. After a few years off and moving around the country, I have decided to get back into what I love doing best and that is building models and dioramas and since I love fishing I might even get into making my own stick bait lures.

Got my garage all cleaned out and next week, I get my new air compressor and air brush, the week after that my drill press, saws, router and router table. Then the week after that start investing into my micro tools and paints and all the little pieces are parts and TOOLS TOOLS TOOLS.

I have just thought of an idea, for my first diorama, and its going to be Reagans Memorial service in the Capital building, with the flag draped casket and the 5 soldiers standing around the casket. I just have to find all the little guys in the proper dress. Any ideas on where to find these 5 little guys would be helpful.

I would like to thank everyone here but there isn't enough room, so I would like to thank a couple of people that I found to be especially helpful.
1.MikeV(With all your posts do you ever get to build models?)
2. monrad
3. Woody
4. RSaddlemire
5. Jeeves (for asking all the right questions that I want to know the answers to!)
6. saltydog (last but not least!!)

Thanks everyone and thank you FSM for being here! Bow [bow]

Hi Rusty,

What scale is this undertaking going to be inQuestion [?] I have noticed that while searching for figures in the 1/32 or 1/35 scale that there are not too many things that a not directly related to combatSad [:(] What I have had to do in this scale is to order figures that are close to the pose I need and replace the heads and sand off and re do their uniformBanged Head [banghead] There are probably figures in a large scale that shows the five Honor Guards in the proper uniformCool [8D] Your undertaking is a fine one and I wish you luck with your search, but you just might have to do some scratch buildingSign - Oops [#oops]

Wish I could have been of more helpBig Smile [:D]

I am figuring on scratch building the coffin and the floor, the figures are actually the easy part, except of course the "detailing of them" and actually getting them all together and in one spot without sacrificing to much detail by adjusting them to the proper positions which is what we modelers are all about right, detail and adjustment ?("even if that means our own attitudes" hahahaha)... I just need to get started first and see what I can come up with and stuff, as far as scale... I am figuring once I get the 5 pieces in whatever scale they will be in, I will be able to "eyeball" the coffin. Its easier to eyeball stuff for me once i get a basis to go on. It stinks that its so hard to find figures that are not in "war mode". This was an idea that I started off by saying "WOAH this will be EASY" It obviously won't be as easy as it seems, it will be VERY nice for me, I am sure I will do 5 of them before i get them down to a science=)), anyway I was talking to a museum friend who knows a curator of some "other" president *no names* Sign - Dots [#dots] needless to say I won't be doing a diorama of him and Monika Lewinsky anytime soon, Big Smile [:D]. I am thinking of after I get it right and done RIGHT I will send it to the Ronald Reagan Memorial. Smile [:)]

"When California falls into the ocean will it become the Gulf of Nevada?"
"What good is a wooden dog, what am I going to call him, Splinter?"
"Ohh, I sure hope you're from Keebler..."
Knowhutamean? Whistling [:-^]

Thanks, RSaddlemire your continued help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, I am figuring it will take me about 8 months because at the moment I have NO tools so it will be interesting. Smile [:)]
