Americana makes an acylic paint that is perfect for this application. It sells for .99 for a 2oz squeeze bottle and comes in a myriad of colors. It is a little thicker and covers well. More importantly if you paint it on straight from the bottle, it will seal your papermache product. They dry flat and relatively fast. No problem with washes or drybrushing.

Available at Walmart, Crafts & Stuff, Hancocks or Michaels.

There are other companies that carry a similar product of paint. This is the one I've been using and have the easiext acess to with the best results.

You could also try sealing it with PVA glue (the white stuff) mix it with a little water so it spreads, then paint as normal.

You might try sealing the paper mache with a clear non water base paint or some type of primer prior to using any water base products. I use a spray can primer for most of my work and any other type of paint will adhere to it.

Good luck,

can someone help with first diorama

hi everyone! first time posting here and its with a problem i have. i am trying to make my first diorama and i am having a problem with the papermache i am using, the actual product is called Claycrete. the problem i am having is with washes. after putting it on the base and letting it dry, and yes it was dry i waited several weeks before painting :). well i airbrused the base color on it and after the base i tried to put a black wash on it. the problem is when i put the wash on it the wash did not flow into all the nooks and crannies it just seeped into the papermache like a sponge. how can i stop the wash from soaking into the papermache and flow like i want it? would spraying on a gloss coat before putting on the wash help? any and all help is welcome :)
