Hanger 2.0 FINISHED!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 5, 2004 9:20 PM
This morning my new airplane hanger was finished, it is made out of a balsa wood frame on which plastic was added to make the walls, doors, and roof.
The camouflage colors and pattern is not meant to copy any specific hanger, all German hangers were different from one another so I copied the colors and styles of hanger camouflage that I had seen in various pictures of late war airfields.

Thanks Dan!

Very happy to be done that hanger, it took longer than I thought it would to finish.
Now I can just build ''normal'' models like everybody else.

Thanks for the kind words Richard, Warren, and duckman!

First of all my comment about ''normal'' models was in no way intended to offend anyone who scratchbuilds buildings, armor, figures, or aircraft.
After building this hanger I have even more respect now than I did before for those modelers who make detailed buildings, groundwork, trees, and the vehicles for their dioramas. Just because I don't normally build structures such as hangers, it does not make them ''abnormal''.
Duckman, I spent hours looking through my books for pictures of hangers, very few good pictures of just the hangers seem to exist. Most interesting pictures of late war aircraft show little of the hangers, so I did not try to copy any specific hanger, what I built was a ''SWAG'' hanger using ''TLAR'' plans.
The camouflage colors and pattern were more closely based on photos of wartime hangers.

Thank you very much Pedro, joe, and Chris!

Next year I might attempt a different hanger that has bomb damage to it.
But right now I have several figures on my work table that need to be finished before I start my AA defense models which are the 8 ton half track with 37mm, Panzer Ostwind, and Wirbelwind. At the same time I will be working on a Monogram 1/48 scale Do 335 to be built as a Luft'46 nightfighter.

Thanks for the comments John!
I have four of the Amtech Ta 183s that would look good parked in front of that hanger, I need to build at least one of them sometime this year. Photographing some of those Luft 46 types will be interesting with that hanger in the background.

Thank you stukah!
I will be adding a few AA weapons in a couple weeks, but first I need to finish painting some figures that I have been working on.
I'll post a couple pics when the figs and AA are finished.

Thanks MurderDogg!

It will be a couple weeks before I post any new pics, I have run out of models to photograph. I am learning how to paint figures right now and am slow at getting these things painted.
Also at the same time I am working on two airplanes at once, my work table looks like the aftermath of an 8th Air Force bombing raid on a German aircraft factory, airplane parts everywhere!

Two pics from a week ago...

Now why would you want to return to building normal models like everyone else?if you have a creative gift why would you want to be like everyone else? The modelling world does not need any more models on bases,I dont mean that as critism for anyone who aspires to do just that but you have shown you have the talent to do better.Go for it.Good luck.Cheers! Thank you very much John!
I have had a chance to look at the quality of your work and I am greatly impressed by it, in the future I will try to reach the high level of workmanship you have demonstrated, but I am very much a newbie as far as the dioramas are concerned and have much to learn yet so thanks for the encouraging words and for looking at my work.

Thank you LIKEWOMANTHATSCOOL!

In a few weeks my figures and a couple new airplanes should be ready for pictures and I will post the pics then.
I have some ideas about using different camera angles that I would like to try, and if they work it should result in pictures that are interesting. I have only had my camera a few months now and am still getting used to it, every time I take new photos I gain knowledge on what works well in taking the kind of pictures I am pleased with. So far I am not satisfied with what I have done and think I can do better.

You ma have answered this before, so I apologize in advance if I sound like I'm from the Department of Redundancy Department, but what do you use for a photo editor? Your B& W work is excellent and that last color shot looks like a faded WWII era color snapshot.

ajlafleche,

What I use for photo editing is Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, I bought mine at a local Wal-Mart for under $60.00. So far I have only used a few of the tools it has to offer, there is much to learn about it yet.
Thanks for the comment about my attempts to age my pictures.

Thanks zokissima!

I have the kits of the AA now but will build them later, I need to build some aircraft to put on that airfield!
Right now I am painting 15 figures at once and building a Do 335 and very late war Fw 190 D that is pictured in a book about the Russian armed forces winning the war against the Germans. This book is not printed in english but in Russian, the Fw 190 D picture shows a late model D-12 or D-13 with the wide cord Ta 152 style tail and paddle blade prop also used on the Ta 152.
When these new planes and figures are finished I will post some pics, the Fw 190 D I am trying to model will be of interest to late model Focke-Wulf fans.
