Howdy guys! I posted a version of this message on the airbrush forum directed towards MikeV and he suggested I post it here.

I have a fairly large woodworking company and some of our off-cuts are very usable but it is often more cost effective for us to throw them away rather than to try and re-cycle them. My thoughts were that maybe some of you guys could use our off-cuts as diorama bases. We could cut them to size and profile the edges and ship them out. There would be no cost to you but you would have to pay the shipping. My shipping department would just send them collect. This would be particulary hand for someone who maybe didn't have access to a custom profiled-edge 24" square piece of maple! I am sure shipping charges would be pretty small. I don't want anything for doing this as I think the amount of time needed to cut them to size and then profile the edges and wrap them should be about the same as what our disposal company charges to dispose of them. Might be a win-win for everyone. Open to thoughts here.

Bismark9...if i was back in Dallas or upstate N.Y....or even someplace in the states.............i'd take ya up on that....
all my builds are in plexiglass covered display cases with wooden bases.....
a little molding trim and a plexiglass cover fit to the ID of the base and voila'.........a dust free environment......
portable, too.

I for one would not mind taking you up on this idea. I have a few pieces that I would not mind acquiring for some ships I'm building. Thewn all I need is to go to Home Depot for the Plexi to put over it.

I'll let you know sizes in a few.

One other thought after I read the first two responses to my note. I was thinking that you would be covering these things with rocks and dirt like any good armour modeler!!!(ha ha) but I see here another potential for those less fortunate builders who haven't yet come over to the dark side.. We could quite easily finish those bases with a nice stain and lacquer finish suitable for display purposes. I personally think they look better covered with broken down buildings and rubble and the odd MG 42 nest, but what can I say..........

I am relatively new with these forum things so I don't know where to put in my email. For now use gshockey@shaw.ca. Send me the dimensions and what you want to do with it. I can recommend what type of wood(and tell you what we have around at the time) to use unless you have a specific request. We have quite a bit of maple, alder, lots of eastern pine, and the odd bit of oak. The maple stuff looks great. Also, if you are just using it for display (ie: putting a brand spankin' new tiger tank on a piece of wood) then maybe you want some stain and lacquer so it is ready to go. I can have our finishers to that without too much effort (delegate and dissappear is my life).

One way to include your Email in your postings is to click on 'Profile' on the top of the page. It will ask you to log in using your username and password; once you do that, you can edit your Profile. There is a place to enter your E-mail so that whenever you post, you'll see an 'Email' icon at the bottom of every post.

I'll have some dimensions in a couple of days.

What an amazing offer , I live in the U.K and a offer like that would be un-heard of here . The companys here are too tight fisted and think its better to dispose of it so that we have to buy larger pieces from them . To get good quality wood for bases would cost me a fortune so i have to stick to cheap pine or MDF . Best of luck and keep ti going Bismark

Heh TopGun14, I see you are an RAF guy. I spent some time in the Canadian Air Force (what was a long time ago the RCAF) That makes us almost relatives... Just kidding but we did litter a few rugby fields with RAF carcasses..... Send me an email and the dimensions and what you need and I will send you some diorama bases. Least I can do for a fellow airman.
