I use warhammer static grass stuff, it works well. if u want a dirt road, lay that down very first. make sure u make the road a bit wider than it will be when its finished, then use glue on the base, sprinkle the grass on and blow to let it stand up right, clump it in spots where it looks to flat , and a litlle on the side of the road. let dry over night, paint if u want it to look more like plains grass (Yellow) than lush grass (Green). then you can add shrubs in places and longer grass, and folige of all types.

Hannibal,

Here's something else you can keep in mind....

Tiny bundles of hair (cut at different lengths) simulates really nice clumps of tall grass/weeds around sign/fence post/rocks, etc... and airbrushed according to the season being depicted. Simple and about as inexpensive as it gets, but provides a very unique and realistic addition.

Take care,
Frank

How do you use static grass? Do you even use that for grass?

for my dio i used some of that pink insulation board as a base. if you go to a lhs you can find some woodlands senic "turf" it is greeen powder used on model railroads as grass. sprinkle it on, then use thinned white glue (not sure on the mixture, have to get back to you on that one) in a spray bottle to get the grass to stick. for the road, it really depends on how you want the road to look. you can use again woodlands senics matterials, real dirt, or just paint. if you use the pink insulation board you can make holes, rutted roads, craters, by cutting into the board with a hobby knife. with the extra pieces you can make hills, rocks, buildings, etc.

found it! it is 50/50, 50 white glue, 50 water. this was for gluing ballast (rocks under the track) but ti should work.

i hope this helps
