Crash landing!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 5, 2004 9:19 PM
While attacking B-29s over Germany a Bf 109H was hit by the defensive fire of a B-29 and the pilot was forced to break off combat and return to his base but the Bf 109 H caught fire and the pilot was forced to land at an auxiliary airfield, the pilot was unharmed but the plane was destroyed by the fire.

Here is another pic of the same airfield before the crash landing...

Didn't know B-29's flew of Germany, but good work.
Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.

grandadjohn,

It is correct B-29s never flew combat over Germany, but the Bf 109H never flew any combat missions either, I broke my Bf 109H model today while taking pics so I decided to have some fun with it anyway and tried something new with my pics.
This fall I will build some of my older unwanted kits as battle damaged aircraft that were forced down from combat.

That's a great job. You certainly are getting your dollars out of that airfield setup.

Thanks scer16 and Swanny!

This photographic base has given me a way to get some use out of some of my older models, otherwise they are nothing but dust collecters on my shelf.

My photobase is far from finished, I have some AA weapons to add to it yet as well as more figures and sometime next year a bomb damaged hanger.

Here is a in-progress pic of a couple new models I look forward to photographing on my photobase...

Thanks Ryan!

This was my first attempt at a ''fire'' using photoshop, I have plans to build some of my older kits as battle damaged aircraft and have some digital fire and smoke coming from the damaged areas.

Matrixone it´s a very realistic photo, the fire is great, but i think the canopy should be open.
I continue to say that the airfield carts can improve your great airfield even better.
Keep sending

Thank you Pedro!

I know the airplane should have had the canopy opened for the pic with the fire, but the airplanes left landing gear broke off while I was setting up to take some practice pics last Sunday so I tried to make the best of a bad situation and took some pics anyway. I never really intended to try a crash landing pic (yet), things just worked out that way.

I have three older unbuilt kits that will be built as battle damaged aircraft that had made forced landings, when I add fire to these models it will look 100% better than my first attempt at digital fire.

No more work has been done on my airfield dio for a couple months because I really need to get some new airplanes built so I can have something to photograph.
Some AA and more figures will be added to my airfield in a couple months, also some other buildings will be built for the background of my pics.

Next year I am planning on doing a photo/diorama of an airfield that is being used by a squadron of Ta 183s. In two weeks I will start construction on the first of eight Ta 183s that will be needed.

Thanks Hooker 06, Thad, and zokissima!

My two current models have taken quite a while longer to build than I had planned on, the Monogram Do 335 is going smoothly along but the same cannot be said for the other model which is the ProModeler Fw 190 D-11 that was based on ex-Dragon molds and had a few fit problems with it. Also I am converting this airplane into one of the very rare 190s that had the big Ta 152 style tail and was operated by a ground attack unit in the closing weeks of the war.
Here is another in-progress pic of the Fw 190 and the Do 335.

I bought a new book that is packed with good information and many photos of downed and shot up aircraft it is titled ''Bodenplatte'' from Hikoki publications, it covers the German attack on allied airfields in early 1945.
There are many photos in this book that will be of great interest to modelers who want to try a diorama of an aircraft that made a wheels up landing.

If I am not mistaken (and it is probably likely that I am), B-29s were ferried over the European theater at sometime during the war. It's just something that sticks in my mind that they did it to make a showing or some kind of statement. Can anybody else support this?

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

subfixer,

Years ago I read about a couple B-29s that were flown to England late in the war, it may have been to demonstrate the aircraft to the other Allies as well as to fool the Germans into thinking that B-29s would appear over Germany as part of the bombing campaign.

Thanks DJ!

That Ju 188 is from the Italeri kit and I built that model in the late 1980s.

Thanks Chris!

After I build some new airplanes I will start working on the photobase again, my free time is very limited and I try to get as much modeling done as I can when I am able to find the time.
There are many small details that I intend to add to my photobase pictures that would improve them but time is a big factor in deciding how much detail I can afford to put into this project and still have fun with it.

Better pics are on the way, but I can't say exactly when that will happen.

Fabulous work as always, Matrixone.

I was wondering, between your amazing axis aircraft builds, can you build one allied recon P51 or Spitfire and take aerial photos of your airfield?

Then you can post them on here!

Dan,

Next time the photobase is assembled outside for a picture taking session I will allow 1 PR aircraft to fly over, after that no more flights allowed in my airspaceBig Smile [:D].

Sort of an overhead shot of an in-progress Do 335,

Dan,

Check this forum in a week or two I may have two of my new builds done and will be taking some new pics at that time and will take at least one pic of the airfield from above.
Thanks for the comment about the Do 335.

Hmmm.... These pics look familier.... Big Smile [:D] Even though I've seen most of them before, I'm still blown away by your photography skills. You may inspire me to build a mini (ha ha) diorama for the 290Z, once it's finished and I have nothing else to do.
That which does not kill you makes you stranger...

Lucien,

Your Ju 290Z is so huge I would need to expand my airfield just to photograph it!
Also the other challenge in trying to take pics of such a large plane would be getting it in focus, even twin engined 1/48 scale models are a problem sometimes getting decent focus.

Thank you very much Thad and thundergod!

Both of my newest models might be done this weekend and will try and post some pics of them then. The Do 335 is shaping up rather nicely for such an old kit, I have had that kit since the late 1970s and decided to do a ''what if'' version of the airplane since I now have the new Tamiya Do 335 twin cockpit kit of the same type of plane.
