Very cool and well done dio.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

What a great imagination and wonderful technique! I absolutely love this diorama. There was (still is, probably) a Val in Apra Harbor in Guam that we used to dive on and this dio brings that all back. There was also a Zero that some clown stuck a maniquin in the cockpit that would freak out first time visitors with its swaying in the currents. Yeesh!

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Excellent original concept. Well thought out diorama, with excellent underwater effects. I have just one bit of advice. You should've used a blue background instead of the corrugated box. I think a blue or dark blue background would've really put the diorama over the top in your pics. But definitely a great dio.

TigerII,
I took the picks at our last meeting and felt the box was better than table, chairs, walls, people, etc.

Mike,
Gavin uses a bit of clear plastic, coated with glue (usually white glue or Matt Medium) and dips it into a jar of small plastic beads.

Gino,
All of the divers touch at some point. Gavin usually inserts a small wire into each figure and uses that to mount them to the base. In this case, a hole is drilled in the plane and the wire mounted there. This is just another way to make the dio more believable.

Looks awesome. Any idea how the figures are suspended. It think they each have a flipper touching something, but it is hard to tell. Any ideas? Looks great.

Impressive dio. Cool trick simulating the underwater conditions sans the water.

Thanks for sharing.

Here is another of Gavin's masterpieces. The figures are made up from Preiser figures with scuba gear from the old UDT set. The Zero is the Tamiya kit...just kidding. It is the old Revell kit in 32nd scale.

You can see the rest of the pics in the September meeting Gallery as well as a few others and his current project.
