Try picking up the book "The Art of Painting Miniatures-Faces and Figures" by Alex Castro. It not only will help you in painting figures in 1/35 scale but even in larger scales like 90mm, 120mm or 1/9 figures and busts. You can see the cover of this book on his site. www.alexcastro.com He's taught me alot about figure painting and I have his autographed book.. He is a world renown artist who turned his talents to the miniatures. I like armor but when I put figures in a dio, my figures look as lifelike as possible. Thanks to his techniques. Good luck.

yea, I have only just begun to paint figures and I have played around with ready made flesh tones from various companies and I have had some good results I have also tried the formuals that MG gave me (see above) and the results were a large improvement one my last efforts so thanks guys for your help.

What's your point?
Mixing your own is definitely the 'professional' way to go about it, as making your own will give you a much wider range of colour and flexibility. However, pre-mixed tones found on the market are fine as well. Not the epitome, but a good starting point nonetheless, as they allow you to get an apploximate idea of where to start.

I always use pre-mixed paints for face tones, at least for the basecoat. I've found that Citadel Miniatures paints (of Warhammer fame) work well. They're acrylics, so come with all the inherent advantages, and cover very well. I use their Elf flesh for the base tone of pretty much any 1/35 figure I paint.
