Don't know if I can help at all with your dio, but with some recent events, you should be able to find plenty of pics on Google. Also, check out the Helicopters forum here.

An idea for making mountanous terrain in a smaller scale dio, (if you choose to make it 1/72 scale for instance) would be to get some Styrofoam blocks and then carve out the craggy sides and slopes of the landscape you want. Then "sand" it semi-smooth to get rid of some of the 'pebbly' texture. Paint the rocky sides of the crags with a sand/brown coat and wash it with a red/brown wash, while drybrushing with a light sand color. Coat it with a mixture of Elmer's glue and water (50-50 mix) and sprinkle a finely ground dirt or sand/brown powder over it. Punch in some scruffy grass and bushes and you've got a dio base!

Hope this helps.

Something to remember is tha Afganistan is considered the most remote and difficult to maneuver terrain in the world. Make it steep and craggy. Echo subfixer on the chooper info.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]!! nice ta know ya! for that mountainous terrain, if its 1/35, I would include just some larger rocks and maybe a dip in the ground somewhere. its too large to include something resembling rough mountain sides. then again, if you want to do a large dio, having it on a good grade slant would look sweet- at least to me.

For a really good dio of a scene from events dramatized in Black Hawk Down and a step by step, pick up Historical Miniatures #45, available at http://www.sentinelminiatures.com or http://www.redlancers.com
