If you are willing to splash out a bit, head over to HLJ and check the turntables that they have for sale there.
Bought quiet a few from them to display some models, should be asy to incorporate into your Dio and modify for your needs.

I'm with Model Museum on this. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. most electric motors are desigend to run a scale centrifuge. You'd need to rewire it or do some massive reduction gearing to get to a slow enough speed. I'm not sure if the ones I've seen recently and the one I bought severla years ago are the same as MM mentions, but the new ones are set to rotate at one RPM.

The ones I have seen run off a few batteries, got 2 speed settings(1rpm & 2rpm methinks), big table that is covered with red or grey felt.

Than there are the smaller ones designed for resin figures and so on here you can get really fancy with lighting from underneath, etc.

Hobby Link Japan is an online store that sells kits directly from Japan, Rainbow 10 is another.

Both are very good stores and have very good service.

Don't know if you need it any time soon, but with Christmas coming up, there are always those little decorations/figurines that rotate when you plug them in. Their rotation speed is generally pretty slow. You may be able to find something on clearance once Christmas is over, and modify it.

Just a thought.

Squadron sells the Seiko Precision brand of turntables. They have different sizes, but I'm not sure if they will be applicable to the scale you are building. Just a thought.

Got a microwave with a dead magnatron that has a turntable dealie in it ? Take it apart, regear it and there ya go. Usually they have a belt drive like a big 'o' ring. I've used one a bunch for displaying cars.
