US Air Force Snark Guided Missile Launch Site

This is the Lindberg 1/48 scale kit from my stash that has been there a long time. Going back in time makes me realize the quality of todays kits in comparison. What with poor fit, warpage, flash, mold marks and whatever the kit was a challange. There was no scratch building with this one as the kit contained everything. Wasn't as much fun as the Regulus dio and it also did not take nine months to do this one.It was quite cloudy when I shot the photos so I hope you like the outcome.

Thanks for lookingBig Smile [:D]

Duke and Dave,

Thanks for the kind words. The hardest part of the big bird was the white decal stripes. They were translucent so I had to paint the missile white, mask off the areas where the stripes go with frisket paper and apply the red. I bought a tool from Micromark that cuts parallel lines. What a great tool as I was able to cut the frisket paper the proper width for all the white stripes. After the red dried for two days on went the decals without a problem.

So that's what it looks like assembled. Good looking build. I have two of those in my stash. They were fairly cheap a "BIG LOTS" and I decided to have one for a regular build and one for a fantasy build which I have'nt gotten around to as yet.

Splash,

A couple of words of advice on the Snark build. First, paint the missile white and mask off the places where the white stripes go as the decals are translucent and don't cover the red very well. I used firsket paper as the mask. Second, do a lot a dry fitting prior to gluing as I foud my model to be warped in places and poor fitting in other places. It makes you realize just how good todays kits are in comparison to those of twenty some years ago. Good luck with your build I'd like to see how it comes out.

Another awesome piece of aviation history being told by you.

The crew looks busy at work. I am worried about the man with the fire extinguisher because I dont think he's really gonna be worth a damn if there's a fire! Clown [:o)]

Great job, thanks for sharing!
