1:72 materials
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 11:25 PM
Hello,

Im looking to build my first piece of armor (not sure what yet) and put it into a diorama. The scale will be 1:72. Im still unsure of the setting as of yet, but Im thinking either city ruble or snow. What materials are there out there for something in this scale?

Thanks.

Verlinden and Custom Dioramics make some buildings in 1/72. Lots of stuff can be scratchbuilt like the rubble. You can use broken (and smashed) pottery, balsa and tooth picks railroad ballast etc. For snow you can use Woodland scenics "snow" which is made out of a product called microballoons, or baking soda.
good luck!

Hey there fellow canuckSign - Welcome [#welcome], I'm interested in 1/72 scale also. In fact that's all I do. Woodland scenics learning kits are great. They have all the sample size foliage for starting out. Airfix has a forward command post with a whole bunch of great details included. Itallari has a battlefield accesories kit also. It includes things like gas tanks water tanks and sand bags. That should help you out a bit. Good luck and show us yer project once it's done.

You can use practically anything, the wider your imagination, the more you will see around you to use! I always look at Model railway suppliers for scenics and building materials. They have a wealth of useful bita and bobs.

What era modern or WWII? What nationality? Verlinden do some figures, for both. There are a number of manufacturers out there, if you can be more specific we might be able to help.
