This is an oldy, it's my second ever dio, I did about oh 2-3 years ago when I got the military bug. Verlinden building, Tamiya's Marder III (wicked kit), Tamiya's Front Line Infantrymen kit, and this was my first attempt at rubble. After looking at pics of ruins, I saw some where rubble was up 2-3 floors! [:0] The roadway is plaster, as is the sidewalk, all scribed...I have a ton of shots for this dio, but I just picked out the best shots...enjoy! Big Smile [:D]

Oh, all of the bricks in the rubble are all made by hand out of self hardening clay, and dyed in Navajo Red House Stain....Lots of work, and I don't think I'll be doing that again! LOL

Man, I am simply amazed!!! I keep looking at your work, both in this dio and your previous posts and it just blows me away!!! To build one of those vignettes I'd have to take 6 months, but you keep cranking them out!!! Where do you get your inspiration?

Keep posting those pics ... if there is anything better than your skill at modelling it is your ability to photo them in awesome detail!!! I am green with envy!!!! or is that Olive Drab....???

LOL, alot of these posts are older builds, I actually only have completed around 8 dios or so, no where near Russ! ;) Inspiration just seems to pop into my head, and looking at pics also gives me lots of ideas...there's one that Russ is working on right now, and although I don't want to steal his idea, I would like to do something similar to what he's doing with his panzer IV.
It does take me a long time to do dios too, I only get maybe 1-2 hrs a night to build, and a little bit on weekends....
The pics are taken by VSM's (Victoria Scale Modellers) own Steve Bamford who also runs the ARC site, he takes awesome pics, he just has a knack for doing it! Bugsy is also getting the photo bug now, and has photographed my newer stuff and Russ' as well.

WOW! amazing dio! Love the marder, but I really like the pose of the figures as well, especially the MG gunner and the grenadier. Top Notch!

Russ, like a dork, I sat there and hand painted the mortar with a small brush, using light grey craft paint.....OI! LOL

Wow second build...I remember my second build, no comment. Lets see where to start, I have to agree you have the rubble down great. There is a good flow to the scene, and the armor is very well done. Great job. And tell the photo man great pics.

I don't think it's an American gun, it's the same one the guy who's holding the panzerfaust is carrying, and they were the ones that came with the kit...but if they're wrong, I'll go with the "liberated" theory....LOL
The building is Verlinden, a friend gave it to me, he wasn't going to use it, don't know where he got it from.
I've learned patience with my work, whenever I finish a dio, my mother always wants to see what I've put out, and she critiques it..so I've learned to put footie-prints and track marks in the ground now Ha ha
My friends know me all to well, I say that I'm working on another dio, and they're all like "oh here we go, more rubble!" in a jokingly manner...;)
My first dio included Tamiya's old Panther A and Tamiya's tank crew at rest set. It's not a bad little scene, but I didn't know about colors, I painted the tank in black, white and grey cammo....all wrong! I think I still have the pics somewhere.....

David, I love those bowing emoticons.....totally funny! Yah, all hand made. I started out by taking a piece of the clay, and making a flat square roughly 2mm thick, and cuts strips, then sectioned them into the brick shape, tossed em on wax paper to dry. I just kept doing this, I swear, I must've made around 1,000 or so. To dye them I made a quicky frame out of some wood, stapled some window screen to the bottom, and placed the bricks inside. Then I took the house stain, thinned it out to the consistency of water. I then took a paint roller pan, and placced the box frame above, and poured the stain on the bricks. The pan catches the stain, and I dunked the box in the stain again. Drain well haha
Dumped the bricks on wax paper to dry. Done.
Also, the shell casings for the MG'er were made out of stretched sprue and painted gold. That was another experiment in patience...LOL

It looks like a Mauser Gewehr 43. Similar profiles, but the G43 was a larger rifle, chambered for the 8mm Mauser cartridge. Unofficially called the "German Garand".

Great build...I am in awe of the detail. Really enjoy the pics.

With respect to question regarding the rifle that appears to be a M-1 carbine, it actually is a German semi-automatic combat rifle called the K-43 (Karabiner 43). (It maybe the G-43 (Gewehr), hard to determine from the pic. The K-43 in appearance is a shorter version of the G-43 and resembles the M1). The Germans figured out early on that they needed a combat rifle with a higher rate of fire than the old stalwart K98 Mauser. There was an earlier variant the G41 (produced by Mauser and Walther).

Once again, great build...
