dio # 3 "Herbst"
Posted by rebelreenactor on Thursday, January 27, 2005 6:24 PM
hey all, this is my third dio. Its in 1/35 and italeri demag and dragon and tamiya figs. It is titled "herbst" which is German for, "Fall". I finished this one up last, well, fallSmile [:)]. Unfortunatley I was trying to rush it out for a competition and really didnt pay attention to the figs, which, I believe are some of the most important factors.Disapprove [V] I was in a hurry and ignored giving them a wash, and drybrushing, and on some the details are very poorly painted or not even there. I have deffinetly learned my lesson! (thank god!)
hope you like, And if you spot something that next time meight help me, please post.
oh, and I used Woodland scenics trees, celluclay with static grass, kitty litter and railroad ballast, then washed, drybrushed etc.

One of the most colorful dios I have ever seen. I think you did a very good job. Next time though don't use the flash when taking pics. The flash always make plastic shine.

You are getting better each time. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work on the Diorama. The figures do look a little glossy, but it may be the lighting used for the pic.

Love the color, and lay out of your dio John. It's definitely an autum scene. The flash does brighten it up a little more then I'm sure it is, but it's a great theme, and seems pretty balanced. Thanks for sharing with us. Semper Fi, mike

well, as bad as they lost the war the germans were snappy dressers!!! i think that some of them should have camo jackets, and their clothes are alittle too clean....but other than that A GREAT DIO! beautiful scene!! -DJ

thanks guys! the 4th pic is my favorite too. Its fun to put the dio on a table and kneel down and look through the trees at the vehicle.
Ya, like I said, the figs dissapointed me. I think I have about 2 good ones, but they still lack a wash and drybrushing. But lessons learned. My next dio I am putting the research together.
thanks agian!

Hey is that a ditch with water in it, in the 2nd pic? Nice touch, i like the guy with the muddy pants in that pic as well. Good balance, with a nice flow, (I'm I talking about hair or a Dio..Tongue [:P]) Great build.

Wow...this one just jumps right out at ya!

Shame about the flash...I'd like to see this one lit naturally, maybe photographed in the early morning/late afternoon so the shadows are long...

Love the foliage...what did you use?

And I'm going to be unoriginal and say how much I like the fourth picture :)

Nice work!
Like you said yourself, don't forget to finish the figures next time!
Also, did you weather the tracks at all? The tires are a bit muddy, but in the picks the tracks look very clean.

I like the fall colors, too!

well, I think for some natural lighting i'd have to go for sunset instead of sunrise! Id be very proud of myself if I could wake up that early!Big Smile [:D]Blush [:I] It wont be for a while that I can get this light anyways, the sun wont come out until about march- aprilSad [:(]
The foliage is Woodland scenics realistic trees- fall colors.
Oh and yes that is a little stream. I used woodland scenics realistic water for that.

the tracks do look a bit clean now that you mention it. I dont think I'm one for major mud, mainly because I havent found a method that suits me.
thanks for the comments!Big Smile [:D]

John, it looks great! The tree work is better than I can do, keep it up! A quick wash and DB on the figs, and they'll look killer!
You could try getting a big piece of blue construction paper at the local art store, and use that as a backdrop when you take pics of your models, it helps greatly. All that our guys use is that and a couple of posable table lamps.
