Figure trouble!

what do you mean by off their mounts? are you using plastic army men?

Sounds like he is using either toy soldiers or some of the older 1/72 Airfix figs.

He could get away with them as long as they are on the ground, all he needs to do is make sure that the "mounts" are level with this "ground" and than cover the whole base mounts and all in one go.

Not my favorite method of working but if he is careful it can look ok.

The only way to get the figures off their "mounts" is to cut them off. Use a sharp hobby knife (like an X-Acto) and BE CAREFUL!!! Make sure your fingers are not in the direction of your cutting.

MM's advice was good, too. Leave them on their bases and just cover them up with your groundwork.

In either case, BE CAREFUL!!
And did you take care of that gash? We wouldn't want it to get infected!

A razor saw would be a safer alternative.

You are absolutely correct!
Now, why didn't I think of that?

I usually take my hobby knife and move it back and forth very carefully and it EVENTUALLY comes off but it is ticklish work

I use a razor saw and make sure I dont take any of the figures foot off. As I build all my dios on a styrofoam base I attach a cutoff straight pin to a hole drilled in one of the figures feet and just stick it where I want it and it looks as if they are standing there. It also gives you the opportunity to reposition them as the dio goes together. Hope you finger heals fast.

That photo was taken in the summer of 1956 at NAS Chincoteague, Virginia. It is an FJ-3 Fury from Guided mMssile Group Two and he is controlling a Chance Vought Regulus One. They were doing a fly by for some prospective admerals. The altitude is 35 feet and the speed is 400 MPH+. I was stationed there at the time.

a guy told me another way.
he says he takes a really sharp screw driver( the - head kind) heats it, and presses it against the joining part of the foot and the stand.
I never tried that because I was too scared of the fire and that it would wreck my figure

My favorite tool lately is an old X-acto blade that I made into a saw. Use your Dremel with a cutting wheel and make several small tooth-like cuts in the blade about 1/8 inch apart. Makes for a nice, efficient controlable saw edge for those tight fits.

The 'gash' is fine. I did however the next week was chiseling and the blade snapped and made huge cut in my right pinky. It bled for three hours. I should have listen to your advise BE CAREFUL!! I'm fine now. When somebody said if they were army man figures they weren't. They were Italeri 1/72 roman infantry. If you view my post, Rise Of Rome, you can see that I kneed help painting them. This 'figure trouble' post was somewhat on the elementary side. I just wanted to make sure I end up with $8 dollars down the drain. Thanks
