Thanks for the info Kel, I still have the 250 on my shelf (along with about 20 other kits) I was considering the Academy interior version Tiger, but I will probably just hold out for the new Dragon one instead.

Gander,
Academy figures aren't the best to look at, I only used a couple that came with the Tiger. I would suggest if you use the figures, get new heads. The Tiger was quite nice to build, since it was my first non Tamiya military kit I've built. I purchased the kit at a swap and shop for 20 bucks. The barrel halves were bowed slightly, but with a little Tenax, and some pressure when I mated the two halves together, it straightened out rather nicely.

Everything fit nicely except that the flat section that goes to the upper hull. When I laid it down, there was about a 1mm gap between it and the front glacis plate. I simply added a strip of clear plastic from a hockey card holder, and it filled the gap nicely.

The 250 is a piece of crap. It's the old Grief kit that Russ gave me...(maybe that's why I got it, he knew what I was in for) The majority of the pieces fit pretty good, but those tracks....don't get me started. That's why they're caked in mud, 'cause they are crooked as hell. Can't stand individual tracks, gimme the rubber bands any day! So I hate separate tracks, so what do I do? I go and buy Dragon's 3n1 251 Pioneer and Dragons Flamethrower 251.....D'OH!

Nice work Kelly

I really like the work on the 250.

How was the Academy Tiger to build and more importantly how were their figures as I have never been game to actually purchase a set?

Thanks guys....
Druc...funny thing was I really didn't think of the dio in the way you explained, I sorta just started putting things here and there, and ended up with what you see, but I love your explanation!
Skar, the mud is just plain top soil from the back yard. I have a bucket of it ready to go at all times. I simply bought some cheap sifters and sifted the soil, so what I have is almost powdered dirt. I just add a little water and straight white glue to some dirt to make a muddy "paste", and apply it to where I need it. When dry it's hard as a rock, and ready for some drybrushing.

Nice, nice, nice. Super paint/weather/detail work, groundwork is great, love the fact that it's obviously a busy day for these guys but not to the point that the viewer gets lost and confused. I also like how the main focus--the Tiger--is pointed at the sandbags, which curve around and "point" at the trailer, which leads the eye to the halftrack, which brings us back to start...great flow here (one of the things I always forget during the layout stages of my dioramas!)

Just awesome. Looking forward to seeing more of your dios.

Lots of activity and it all seems well balanced. Nice details. Thanks for sharing with us.

Off The Line Dio
Posted by Kelly_Zak on Monday, January 31, 2005 9:18 AM
Hello All!
Title: Off The Line. I used Academy's Early Tiger I kit (the non-interior one), and Tamiya's 250 (the Grief kit) for this scene depicting a Tiger coming off the front, in for rearming, repair, etc. The tree is a root from the back yard, and dried flowers. Dragon, Tamiya, and Academy figures were used.
Sandbags are scratched, with some Tamiya ones mixed in. The base is plaster with a mix of soil and static grass, the longer grass is from a rail supply store. Some of the ammo boxes are scratched items, using hardwood floor pieces, with plastic strip. The tarp is kleenex layed over top of the boxes, soaxed down with white glue/water, and painted and DB'd.
Enjoy, comments/crit. always welcome! Smile [:)]
Cheers,
Kelly
