hi im building a diorama of omaha beach on d-day

thanks every body. do any of you now were to get the dimensions for the obstacles? and does any body know the dimensions for the wooden obstacles and how deep and wide the trenches behind the bunker were? also i was wonder the dimensions for the germa pillboxes. because i built one out of styro foam but i don't think it is to proper scale (1/35) any help is very apriciated.

I think a shadow box would be perfect for a Omaha dio.

This reminds me of a dio I saw at the Dallas Nationals a few years back. It was done by a young teen (13) I think. It was 8'ft. long X 2'ft. wide, it started out in the water with a couple of landing craft and worked its way to the beach and right on up to the German defences. It was very interesting to say the least. And I believe it broke down into two parts. My only concern was the amount of blood and gore that was in the dio., but thats the way it was on the beach, so factualy I cant complain.

One would only need do a small section to portray D-Day, I think there would be enough detail in a small section to do what with all the action happening on the beach!
The troops running up the beach,catching their breath behind the obstackles, the weapons and gear strewn about,medics running about,maybe a vehicle to take cover behind although vehicles didn`t come ashore with the first wave would make for an interesting setting. Sounds kind of exciting,might try it myself,lol!

that is a dio subject that I have been boucing around for years.

the scope to do it justice is daunting.

actually, i've seen those metal obsticals sold as a product.(sorry just can't remember where)
and please post a picture online of the finished model!
i've been thinking about that idea but it jsut doesn't fit in my budget!

yea, they sell them in sets. For the Gertman MG gunneres you can try Dragon, Tamiya and probably Warriors and Verlinden.

THEY SELL THOSE OBSTACLES IN A KIT...(BUT IF UR CHEAP LIKE ME, MAKE THEM OUT OF SHEET STYRENE ANGLE PIECES... BUT GET THE DIMENSIONS...(JUST TO GET IT AS ACURATE AS POSSIBLE...) HOPE IN HELPS-DJ

You can buy metal frame work at a local hobby shop. It is usually in the Rail road section. Just buy some styrene angle Iron peices, and build to a refrence photo.
