Flak Station - Eastern Front Vig.

Hi Everyone, this rounds up my dios to post until I'm finished more projects. Another older one, using Tamiya's Quad Flak kit, and Tamiya's German Soliders At Field Briefing Set. Balsa wood used for the base for the gun, the radio robbed from the old Tent Set, Scratched rolled tarps made from thin styrofoam wrapping, Verlinden boxes, and old spices for ground cover. Snow is baking soda. The snow looks a little bright, it's just the lighting, it's much darker on the real thing.
Enjoy!

Nice work! I like the ground cover/snow and the figures look great. The Tamiya field briefing is one of my favorite figure sets...I always like to see them put to good use!

Now, get another dio finished so we can see more!

Sounds like me...I got a two-vehicle dio in the works...just finished the second vehicle and turned to the groundwork and realized that I've got MILES to go...wow...

Anyhow, we'll be waiting patiently for the next batch of pics...

Excellent Dio. Spices for ground cover, thats a good idea, so long as the wife doesnt catch wind of it. Of corse I could always buy my own spices. I really like the blind between snow and bare ground, great job.

Thanks for the show.

Extremely well done. I love seeing groundwork that looks so realistic. Can you elaborate on what you did exactly?

Zok,
Initially, I scratchbuilt the wood area right onto the base, then I made a very thick plaster mix, and poured it around the wood to give it that dug in look. Next some topsoil was added everywhere for the ground, followed by rail grasses. Then I added the spices (god this sounds like a cookbook recipie Mischief [:-,]). Once dry, I then started adding the baking soda, heavily on the outer edges, and getting lighter towards the back part of the dio. All of this of course was very messy to do, luckily I put newspaper on my bench for such undertakings. Some of the soil bled through a bit, but it helped blend everything together. A slight dusting of blue pastels here and there helped give it that tinted look.
