My First Dio
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, April 18, 2005 9:20 PM
Hey all, just wanted to show you this dio I've been working on. It's about 90% done now, just a few small things left to do. It depicts a pak 35/36 in the early stages of operation Barbarossa. The crew has hastily deployed their anti-tank gun in a destroyed log barn which has recently been hit by a shell causing dirt to fly everywhere. The gun and crew are an old Tamiya kit, and definitely made me realize how much the quality of figures has improved since this kit was made. This is the first dio I've ever done, and one of the first models I've finished in about 10 years.

Let me know what you think.

What did you use for the logs? I like this dio, it's simple and effective, a good start. What's your next project?
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

Well there are several things i like about this build...
The ground work is great and the chopped logs on the back side are a fine touch. They really help to fill in the space, good job there.
The figures have all the flashing/seams sanded smooth, great job. And all the joints are smooth as well, very nice. In fact you should be very proud, as old as the kit is you make it look like brand new.
The only thing I would add (And you might have and I just cant see it), is a little light drybrushing to the gun. Just to bring out some of the detail. Wink [;)] Of course thats optional.

All around great build, thanks for sharing.

First Dio eh? A likely story....LOL
Seriously, very nice, and very original too, probably one of the first scenes I've seen with a log house in it. Everything looks as it should for the scene, you've done a great job on the figures. I would just make the pics a little brighter, just a little on the dark side. Great job, man!

Thanks for all the comments. The logs are made from small willow trees, the hardest part was finding ones that were relatively straight. As for my next dio, I'm thinking a street-fighting scene in France, 1944, but who knows.

Thanks again for all the advice, I've learned a lot from you all since joining here.
