You could... depending on what you're depicting (i.e. a shoreline) put in some floating debris. Or you should be able to mask off the area and repaint. Or you could add a "ripple" of thick white paint by brush to simulate a wave crest. My thoughts at least. If you can give some more detail as to the end project type, I may be of more help.

its a fictional bridge in france which is controlled by the germans. there will be a kning tiger tank on one shore, a motorcycle and a horse-infantry on the bridge, and some foot soldiers on the other shore- there is no fighting and the water should be peaceful. anyway, i'll try just repainting the area, but there is no foil there which may make it look awkward. it is relatively small, only about 2cm wide and a few mm thick, not too noticeable from a distance but upclose you could recognize it. the gray you see on the right is the preliminary ground for the shore. thanks anyway for the advice. i'll post pics of the finished model shortly.

Now I have a better idea of what you trying to depict. Easiest solution I can think of short of remasking etc. etc. is this. Cut a piece of card stock paper (back of a pad of paper will do) to the width of the outside border. Insert it to the edge of the frame and re-spray the area. The card stock will mask the border and you can remove it immediately.

The other suggestion is you may want to tone the water down. The colour as shown on your post is too stark for a river. A slight greenish tinge to the water, especially if it is still. For a "colour sample" of this type of diorama, rent the film "A Bridge Too Far".
In the opening scenes the Germans are shown in retreat on a bridge over a calm river and you can see a full length shot of the river, the bridge and the colours of each in full sunlight. Just my
