Not bad for a first time shot at a dio,as you progress in diorama building you will learn to improvise and want to get more creative. You will carry what you learned from diorama to diorama, each will be that much more improved and your anticipation to get on to the next project will be great! Good stuff, keep em coming.

Thankyou guys.
GlenB yeah that was supposed to be a canyon wall and the smaller boulders were arockslide that happened awhile ago.

YG

Not many modellers do good eyes. Most don't even attempt them and I have seen worse. It may take years to paint eyes well.

The big rock looks to me like a rocky canyon wall. maybe abstract but it gets the idea across.

But the best thing about your diorama is that the idea comes across clearly.
The infantry are all moving in the same direction with one as the obvious leader.
They give the impression of heading towards an unseen objective. If someone can look at your dio and figure out what is happening, you have nailed the most important part.

Good work and hope to see more.

PS. Don't forget how you did that rust, it is excellent and you will use it a lot in the future.

Looks good for your first dio. You've kept the camo simple. Nicely done. I usually don't paint eyes for 1/35 scale though. They're rather small to paint. Smile [:)]

Hey, looks good for a first try! You did a great job on an aincient Tamiya kit....I would have given the figures a wash, both on the skin and uniforms, followed by a little drybrushing...terrain is not bad, the rocks work, but some of the bigger ones, I would maybe take a hammer to them, then you would have the nice jagged edges for them. Great effort, looking forward to more!

Nice work for your first try. I'll echo the critique on the figures eyes. Got that wide eyed Zombie look that's kinda typical for new figure painters.

ag918w35- Its 1/35 scale. The figures came in the kit. Its probably the photography. We tryed putting track marks in but it only put an indent in the sand you can kinda see it.

I'm starting to work on my first diorama as well, and am a little stumped about the best way to proceed. I've been doing model railroading for years, so I have some pretty good experience doing scenery, but I'm still pondering a good composition for the diorama.

Several questions on this one. What scale is it? Also, I gather that the figures came with the kit, but the helmets don't look like standard Wehrmacht ones. Is it the photography, or am I confused about how they are supposed to look?

Also, I'm not sure what effect tank treads would have on gravel such as you've shown, but I strongly suspect that there would be some sort of tracks behind it as it moved along.

Thanks Harshman and ajlafleche.
Harshman- I still need to practice on eyes. These are the best ones ive done yet.
ajlafleche- thanks I guess I overlooked that. I need to start writing notes to myself on these things. Thanks.

Along withthe other comments, one technical note. This vehicle had a rubber rim on the road wheels. Some Floquil grimy black or anyone else's panzer gray would correct this on the tires.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

GlenB we brushed on this dark redish brownish pastel.

doesnt look bad! The figs are pretty good for a first time, and positioning of everything is well done. A couple of suggestions though.
1. those big rocks, dont use them next time. They look way out of scale and just plain not real.
2. the lichen, lichen dose not look reall out of the package, throw some cooking herbs/spices on it, that will make it look better.
I see veteran and new modelers do the same things as you, so dont feel like your horrible or all alone. Heck, your dio here is better than one I saw in Great scale.
