1/72 v 1/76
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 24, 2005 4:51 AM
Hi guys

Was wondering if anyone knew the actual size difference between 1/72 and 1/76.
My next dio may include a 1/72 tank and 1/76 figures. Will the difference be noticeable?

Thanks
Glen

If somebody is 1,80 m in height

180 cm divided by 72 is 2,5 cm
180 cm divided by 76 is 2,37 cm

Your thinking about a 1/72 tank, so your 1/76 figures wil look like they are 1,70 m in height, not that tall......But then again, people vary in height.
I don't think it will be very noticable.

People vary a lot in height as well and you might want to have tankers on the smallish side to fit in the cramped spaces better. A friend (who is a well known poster here) is a tanker and he's probably only about 5'3".
The important thing, both in 1/72-76 (and 1/35-32) is to keep the eqiupment consistent. People come in a variety of sizes, but the M1 rifle is "one size fits all."

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Take into account that the difference between 1/32 and 1/35 is approx 10%
1/72 and 1/76 only differ approx 5 - 5,5%. Significantly less.
Compare to the 1.80 people amongst us. 1.62 (or 1.98) still seems pretty regular humanoid.
The aforementioned tank driver doesn't even measure up to 1.62. If I'm correct, 5f.t3inch is equal to 1.60 m, so. And the 1/76 to 1/72 is even "more realistic", as mentioned by RemcoGrob. I have seen people of 1.70 'tall' and they seemed to be in perfect working order (sorry, I'm having a joke-spasm...)

One day, when I'm grey and/or bold (which will take some weeks as I'm only 26), I'll build my Vietnam 1/32 diorama. Revell Huey (1/32), Revell Cobra (1/32), Willy (large Heller 1/35), Monogram Patton Tank (1/32) and some figures. I've got some 1/35 vietnamese "scum" and 1/32 GI's. I guess this will turn out OK. Well, when I've build it, my sight is propbably that deteriorated I won't even notice the scale difference, if able to notice the dio at all...
