Go to the railroad section of your hobby store. They sell grass and other scale dirt materials in lots of different shades. To attach the grass to the base, you can either buy Elmer's type glue in a spray can or I just use hair spray on the base then sprinkle the grass on.

if you can get hudson & allen's grass materials, you should try them out as well. theyre applied the same as the railroad stuff, and they look even better in my view

Gringe, where do you find that stuff? Is it just static grass?

I have been using woodland scenics static grass, with ok results.

For doing closely cropped grass, like on a WW I or II airfied, static grass works well. Paint your ground work yellowish brown first, the brush it with a watery mixture of white glue (Elmer's is one type) and water and before it is completely dry, sprinkle it with static grass. After it has sat for a minute or so get to the side and blow briskly across the surface. It stand up the grass blades and they look pretty convincing for closely cropped grass in small scales. You can reuse the excess that you caught in a piece of newspaper that the whole thing was sitting on (you did remember the... ooops). I think you can still get static grass from any place that sells Verlinden dio accessories (Squadron Mail Order for instance). Good luck. Chuck Whistling [:-^]
