Spread PVA Glue (Elmer's white school glue) onto your base in the area you want covered in desert sand. Next, sprinkle on fine playground sand. Once dry, you mak need to do a second coat of the sand. To do this, you can either use pump hairspray or diluted white glue. Soak the first layer of sand, then put another layer on. Once dry, iot can be painted and weathered to get the desired color you want. I use actual sand and dirt on most of my dio bases. The key is to get the finest sand/dirt you can. Sifting it further to remove large pebbles, leaves, twigs, etc is a good idea too. Check out my Showcases to see some exmples.
