Hey all,
Not sure if I should post this here or in the painting section, but since it deals with a dio, I'll take my chances...
I picked up DML's 1/144 scale "Launch!" diorama at the LHS for a little under $6. It includes a VF-143 F-14, carrier flight deck, JBD (jet blast deflector), fire truck with crash n smash hot suit guy and a few little (1") flight deck guys.
Since I spent 15 years in the Navy and bore witness to hundreds of hours of flight ops, I was wondering if getting the flight deck grimy would be easier by just airbrushing some Tamiya smoke (X-19) at a lower pressure over the entire base after building (to get those gloss white undersides of the JBD dirty) or a traditional wash would be best. I plan on using a wash anyways to get inside the aircraft tie-downs and bring out some depth. With this sort of "squinty scale" it would probably be really easy to over do the flight deck. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
