Diorama Information Needed....
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 4, 2005 10:48 PM
I have a diorama idea, and I'd like to run it by you guys/gals, and I have a few questions.

Okay, it's very post-World War II, and a few GIs have a Deuce and a Half loaded up with "souvineirs". (i.e. German weapons, wine, basically just looted stuff.) The only problem is, they've run into a MP Checkpoint, and an MP is "checking the merchendise".

Here are my questions:
1. What kind of stuff do you think the GIs would have?. I was thinking something like MG 42's, MP 40's, Rifles, Paintings, Wine, etc.

2. How can I keep the canvas on the top, but still show the "souvineirs"?

Thanks for your time. Wink [;)]

1. If you could find some silverware or something that would be really neat. In the lines of weaponry, pistols and knives were a biggies. Possibly even hats, uniforms and for sure a nazi flag and some splinter camo smocks.

2. Put the tarp on top of the duce with the sides rolled up and the back open.

Looks like you have the popular weapons listed. Wine was always a biggie and I have seen several dios with that as the main scrounge.

As for the tarp, I have seen some pics of the truck with the tarp just over the front half of the bed which would give plenty of visibility to the loot.

MEMB;

The "silverware" is a great suggestion. If it is still available check with IPMS USA they used to have a nice photoetch sheet with all kinds of goodies. As far as the "how-to" of displaying the goodies. Leave the tailgate down and show the goodies being loaded. Small pile on the tailgate and boxes piled in the truckbed. A few items waiting to be "loaded" behind the truck. Maybe even a little "argument" between two soldiers over something "shiny". Shiny things like a silver tea service or a case of liquor make good fight starters. You can make some really nice detail pieces yourself with good reference and putty or resin. Give it a shot and post your finished pieces.

Cheers;
