Berlin diorama
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 8, 2005 1:40 PM
I am building a diorama of inner city Berlin near the end of the war. It may sound trivial, but what color would German fire hydrants be at this time?

It's hard to tell since all the pictures of that place and time are in black and white. I'm having a similar color issue with a lamp post in a Battle for Berlin dio I'm working on Confused [%-)]

Your are an artist, and this is your medium. I say paint them whatever color makes sense to you.

Actually, professionally speaking, this is my medium:

I just dabble with plastic scale modeling Wink [;)] But I take your point.

You could easily get off with the lamp post being black or a dark to medium green. Not sure about those fire hydrants though.

Hi ehoffman

As far as memory serves the hydrants will be red that was the universal colour for them in every major city - ie Germany, Australia, America, Canada, England

Check the BW photos-if the hydrants look black-they were either black or red. Red shows up as black in BW.

Fluorescent orange.

With purple polka-dots.

Beautiful work on that sculpture... I like the water surface, and the roots holding it up. I'm trying to decipher what type of fish.. walleye? pickerel? pike? awesome design...

Thanks Sam

It's a 42" snook, one of my favorite gamefish to have tuggin' at the end of the line!

Cheers!
Eric

PS It's sculpted in copper, bronze and stainless steel.

Laugh [(-D] I agree with a previous statement ... make the post whatever colour you like ... also agree that anything from green - grey spectrum is going to be great

Daft question but did they have hydrants in Germany ? The ones in the UK are just concrete posts with yellow signs on the front. Don't know what they look like in Germany but if they are any thing like the US , then they will likely be red but almost black from all the bombing as Double D said.
