Classic Diner Diorama

Diner Fan,

You'll need to host those pics on a website such as photobucket.com and give us the URL enclosed in [ img] http:// whatevertheurlis [/img ] (but without any spaces!)

When I was a teenager we used to hang out at the local A&W, back when they served you in your car. Lots of good memories!

Thats a gorgeous piece of work you have! We need to know more of your technics and sources of your diner's furnishings. Are you working in 1/25th scale or something larger like 1/18th? Great photography!!

Thanks for the kind words. I build in 1:24 and 1:18 scale. The chrome diner is 1:24 and the black diner is 1:18.

Thanks for the feedback. It's been a lot of fun. most of my dioramas are 1:18 scale. The above chrome diner is 1:24. All constructed components of the dioramas are craft built including the jukebox. I mostly build using commercial grade acrylics and PVC; I use jigs to hold components in place while applying heat to create the desired shapes. I also work with aluminum and a variety of chrome appliqués. I use a variety of texture coatings for various surfaces, basswood for substrate and various bonding agents; I use soft fluorescent lighting for interiors and EL for exterior neon lighting effects.Thanks. Fabulous work and such a novel idea. I'm not from that generation, but I have very fond memories of our local A&W. The town works hard to keep it open for history's sake. When it closes for the season, the car lot next door rents the parking for the new models as a way to give the place income and get extra space. It also sponsor's car shows.

Those are fantastic pics and the neon lighting effects are just amazing. One thing missing to make the nostalgia complete, People. The cars are outside, so some interaction with figures would put the icing on the cake. Awsome building anyway.
