Good point philp...I actually did do the IL-2 in a winter scheme when I finished it. I also had picked up a horse-drawn fuel sledge at the time as well-- so I guess I will add that too! Thanks!

You said you want the IL-2 on skis, therefore, just a flat snowy surface should work. Throw in some fuel drums and crates for filler.
Here are a few pics.

If you can get some picks of "German" airfields on the Russian front circa '42-'43, you got references for Russian fields circa 44-45. When the Russians started pushing the Germans back, they started reclaiming and re-using their own fields.

I have no info to offer here, but I would like to second the statement that it's a good idea. I'd certainly like to see such a diorama, so good luck with your search for figures and references.

Sounds like a good idea.
Not sure if there is a russian tank crew out in 1/48 yet, but there should be one in time.

sorry I dont have any refs for a russian airfiled. I tried google with not much in return.

Questions on an idea I am working through...

Just picked up Tamiya's 1/48 T-34/76 and I have decided to start a project with it. I came up with the idea of having an Il-2 Sturmovik on a snowy stretch of airfield on skiis and the T-34 off to the side- with the T-34 crew admiring the "Flying Tank" and the Il-2 crew doing the same to the T-34. All I am missing is a 1/48 scale Soviet tank crew...

Barring that-- I need to find some pics of Soviet airfields and the like....anyone have some references for me? Thanks in advance...
