Harrowbeer Project # 04 'Radio Trouble!'

Hi

Here is the fouth Dio in The Harrowbeer Project.

'Spitfire IXc 'B' for Bertie of 64 Sqn. sits at dispersal. A WAAF technician carries out repairs to the R/T whilst the pilot impatiently looks on'

64 Squadron were posted to RAF Harrowbeer twice during the course of WWII. This dio represents their first visit from 26/9/1942 - 29/9/1942 , yes just four days. During their stay the Watch Office Logs decribe them as undertaking 'rhubarbs' over Occupied France as well as a Squadron strength 'scramble' to intercept a raid on Royal Navy Dockyard at Plymouth (it should be remembered that the reason for RAF Harrowbeers existence was to provide Fighter cover for the dockyards in Plymouth) these becoming less frequent as the war developed.

Sorry for the history lesson but I think it helps put things in perspective.

Hope you enjoy the pics.
